All the Money in the World

In Ridley Scott’s powerful film “All the Money in the World” Christopher Plummer (replacing Kevin Spacey) turns in a performance that’s convincing as J. Paul Getty. At the heart of the story is a mother, Gail Harris, played sympathetically by Michelle Williams, trying desperately to save her abducted seventeen year old son, Getty III, played by Charlie Plummer. She appeals to her father-in-law, J. Paul Getty to pay the ransom to the kidnapers for his grandson’s safe return. However the grandfather calculates that to pay the ransom would put his other family members at greater risk of attracting the same dilemma. Not withstanding that point, the richest man on earth, is portrayed as displaying a deep seated characteristic of meanness. The mother is assisted by a cool, commanding, former CIA operative and bungling aide, Fletcher Chase, played by Mark Wahlberg, to good effect. An enchanting performance. much of it in mime, from a young actor Charlie Plummer playing the victim Getty III being held hostage. Many great performances by the cast.
