Pevensey Castle

Pevensey Castle, a small section of the outer fort. The fort was originally built by the Romans over 1,700 years ago. Later, after William the Conqueror’s invasion landing in this area in 1066, it was modernised by the Norman invaders and a medieval castle was constructed within the Roman walls. Again the buildings were adapted to defend against the Spanish Armada 1588. Last military adaptions were for the 2nd World War (1939 to 1945). Picture shows a section of Pevensey Castle, gun emplacement for World War II. Pevensey, East Sussex, UK, picture taken 03/09/2019
