London Bridge

London Bridge originally built by Scottish civil engineer John Rennie on the River Thames London in the 1830s was put up for sale by the City of London in 1967 and sold the following year. It was bought by American businessman Robert P. McCulloch. The Bridge was deconstructed in London transported to America and rebuilt by Sundt Construction in Lake Havasu City, Arizona and re-dedicated in 1971. London Bridge, Lake Havasu City. Arizona, USA, photo 1999

PS:
When I was driving in Arizona in 1999 I noticed a road sign to London Bridge, I thought must check that out. I remembered the rumour around at the time when London Bridge was being relocated and rebuilt in Arizona, was that the American businessman Robert McCulloch who had purchased it, asked his engineers in where are the uprights, apparently in a misunderstanding that he had acquired Tower Bridge. However that story has been refuted. Whatever his expectations the London Bridge he got was a commercial success because unsellable desert land and properties in this perviously obscure place started selling and attracting tourists. It is curious that an atmosphere of London lingers like an invisible fog over the bridge even though it is set in a place that is so very different from London. RKW
