Tree-lined avenue near the village of Pouillé. These quintessential beautiful tree-lined avenues are associated with Napoleon who it has been suggested had a policy of building and lining French roads with trees, to shade his troops, but the policy predates Napoléon Bonaparte. "As a kid at school in French class, I did not learn much French alas, but what made a good impression on me was an illustration in the French book of a long tree-lined road, that looked so inviting, going to wonderful places, I imagined. I have been reminded that this book might be: Modern Method French Course Book 1 by E. B. Crampton & C. E. Loveman."
