Guantánamo 8th year

The London Guantánamo Campaign holds a demonstration outside the London US Embassy marking the eighth year of Guantánamo Bay detention camp. Bound demonstrators in orange jumpsuits and black hoods hold a vigil outside the US Embassy calling for liberty, justice and freedom. The demonstration calls on the US administration to close down the Guantánamo Bay detention camp and its other secret prisons, and an end to the practice of extraordinary rendition. One placard reads: Liberty And Justice Caged In Guantanamo, the other, Bring home Shaker Aamer. Shaker Aamer is a Guantánamo detainee who has been subjected to inhumane treatment. No substantiated charges have been made against Shaker Aamer, indeed he was cleared for release in 2007, however he has not been freed! His British wife and children live in London and have been awaiting his return for eight years. American Embassy in Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, London, UK, 11 January 2010
